At St. Michael and All Angel’s you will find a multicultural community made up of all ages who gather to worship, study, pray and encourage one another in our walk with God.
Compassionate Service, that is, outreach in the community and in the world, Sunday School, and Healing Prayer represent our primary passions and joy. It is here where we get the opportunity to educate and serve others side by side.
The community very much enjoys the opportunity to come together for both worship and social events where we share wonderful meals and activities.
There is a fervent desire to grow in our love and knowledge of God and be of service to one another and the wider community. This brings warmth and joy to whatever we undertake.
“Whatever you do for the least of these brothers of mine, you do for me.” Matthew 25:40
The Outreach Committee seeks to achieve this by making the congregation aware of, and involving them in projects that help to serve those in need. We initiate projects at the local, national and international level and support them by using the talents that God has given to all of us. Our regular projects include Christmas baskets, backpacks for St. Michael’s Mission, participation in the Big Give, support for Auberge Madeleine and L’Arche Orphanage and many other community outreach projects.
The St. Michael’s Men’s Fellowship brings the men of the church together for mutual support in their faith journey and to support other ministries of the church through various projects. The Men’s Fellowship gathers at various times throughout the year for breakfasts or dinners, sometimes with a speaker or other program, for fellowship, prayer and learning.
In addition to regular contributions to church maintenance and landscaping, the Men’s Fellowship actively assists the Outreach Ministry with projects such as Christmas baskets and The Big Give. And every Shrove Tuesday (the last day before Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent) the men’s group has a great time making pancakes and cooking sausage for the annual Pancake Supper.
The Women’s Group is a source of friendship and support for one another through social gatherings. Most of the time we enjoy gathering at various restaurants for breakfast. Other times we meet at church for breakfast or lunch prepared by our own women. In the past we have had various guest speakers give us information pertinent to women’s interests such as the Healthy Heart initiative at the MUHC, Glen site; and end of life issues, such as, palliative care with focus on the WestIsland Palliative Care Residence; making funeral arrangements; and financial planning.
Children and Youth
At St. Michael’s we are committed to ministering to our children and youth. We believe in teaching and nurturing them and providing a safe place for them that they may grow to know Jesus’ love for them. We have a Nursery. We are blessed with a dedicated team of Sunday School teachers.
Christian education is an important part of parish life at St. Michael’s. In addition to Sunday School and other children’s programs, St. Michael’s offers a variety of Christian education opportunities for adults as well. These include Bible study, Lenten and Advent programs, movie nights, theology courses offered in partnership with the Montreal Diocesan Theological College, book discussion groups and more.
